Green Metal Heads bring a new riff to recruitment

There is almost no end to the list of sub-genres in heavy metal music – black, doom, funk, glam, gothic, thrash, to name just a few. We are riffing on these with the launch of our new “Green Metal Heads” recruitment campaign for young people.

The idea came from discussions with young professionals already working within Ovako. And what they said really struck a chord. Because in their view our existing recruitment material felt a little clinical and safe. And if we really want young people to engage with us, we needed something that was a bit more fun and edgy.

That’s why we came up with the Green Metal Heads theme for recruitment activities such as social media and career fairs. To support them we are making some heavy-metal themed videos. And we have even designed special world tour tee-shirts – but instead of rock venues they list the universities and fairs we are gigging at.

We are mainly targeting student engineers, metallurgists and materials scientists, whether they are about to graduate or have just started their studies. In recent years it has become much harder to recruit in these disciplines due to the significant drop-off in the numbers taking these subjects. While our approach is lighthearted, the aim is deadly serious. We are taking a proactive approach to finding the smart people we need at the earliest stage of their career decision process.

Ovako World Tour 2024

Engaging with schools and universities

At Ovako, we believe it is vital for young people to find out about the key role that industry plays in our society. Because a project or a field visit could fuel an interest that later develops into a future career.

That is why we encourage contact with schools and students regardless of the focus of their studies or their country. And we are happy to open our workplaces to anyone curious about how we produce the highest quality engineering steel. Equally, we welcome inquiries from anyone who would like us to come and talk about our business.

Students and young professionals

Thesis collaboration

We are keen to encourage students to work on their final university thesis with us. It might even be the start of an interesting career at Ovako!

Every year we support several students working on projects in various fields. They are a part of our continuous development process, aiming at new products and new or improved production technology.

There are also opportunities for students to carry out part of their Master of Science thesis in Japan, thanks to our exciting cooperation with the Sweden-Japan foundation.

Please invite any of your colleagues/networks to join us as we look forward to bringing you news of interesting aspects of the steel business world.

If you have any questions about recruitment or our Green Metal Heads campaign then get in touch at greenmetalheads@ovako.com
