There is almost no end to the list of sub-genres in heavy metal music – black, doom, funk, glam, gothic, thrash, to name just a few. We are riffing on these with the launch of our new “Green Metal Heads” recruitment campaign for young people.
The idea came from discussions with young professionals already working within Ovako. And what they said really struck a chord. Because in their view our existing recruitment material felt a little clinical and safe. And if we really want young people to engage with us, we needed something that was a bit more fun and edgy.
That’s why we came up with the Green Metal Heads theme for recruitment activities such as social media and career fairs. To support them we are making some heavy-metal themed videos. And we have even designed special world tour tee-shirts – but instead of rock venues they list the universities and fairs we are gigging at.
We are mainly targeting student engineers, metallurgists and materials scientists, whether they are about to graduate or have just started their studies. In recent years it has become much harder to recruit in these disciplines due to the significant drop-off in the numbers taking these subjects. While our approach is lighthearted, the aim is deadly serious. We are taking a proactive approach to finding the smart people we need at the earliest stage of their career decision process.
